Breath of fresh air: nasal stimulation may soothe ventilator patients

NCT ID NCT07308171

First seen Jan 09, 2026 · Last updated Jun 15, 2026 · Updated 24 times

Summary

This study tests whether bringing airflow back to the nose can reduce shortness of breath in people who breathe through a tracheostomy tube connected to a ventilator. Researchers will compare three simple, non-drug methods: continuous nasal airflow, nasal sprays, and a fan blowing air on the face. The goal is to see if these approaches can make breathing feel easier and improve the body's natural breathing signals.
