Keeping mom and baby together could transform care for Drug-Exposed newborns

NCT ID NCT05226624

Summary

This study is testing a new hospital program designed to improve care for babies born with Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome (NAS), which occurs when a baby is exposed to drugs in the womb. The program focuses on 'rooming-in,' where mothers and babies stay together in a quiet hospital room instead of the baby going to the intensive care unit (NICU). Researchers want to see if this approach helps babies go home sooner, increases breastfeeding, and helps mothers get support for substance use.
