New implant could curb heavy drinking in alcohol disorder

Summary

This study tests a naltrexone implant placed under the skin to help adults with moderate to severe alcohol use disorder reduce heavy drinking. About 240 participants will receive either the implant or a placebo, plus counseling. The main goal is to see if the implant lowers the number of heavy drinking days over 24 weeks.
