Nasal spray vs needle: new study tests easier way to mature eggs for freezing
NCT ID NCT06763926
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study compares a nasal spray (nafarelin) to a standard injection (triptorelin) for triggering final egg maturation in women freezing their eggs for fertility preservation. About 154 women will be randomly assigned to one of the two triggers during ovarian stimulation. The main goal is to see if the nasal spray works as well as the injection at producing mature eggs.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- nafarelin (intranasal spray) and triptorelin (injection)
- What this could lead to
- If nafarelin works as well as triptorelin, it could offer a needle-free option for triggering final egg maturation, making fertility preservation more comfortable.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-phase non-inferiority trial (154 participants) comparing two established drugs; it may not show nafarelin is as effective, and individual responses vary.
