Common supplement tested to protect brains in progressive MS

NCT ID NCT05122559

Summary

This study is testing whether N-acetyl cysteine (NAC), an over-the-counter antioxidant supplement, can slow brain shrinkage in people with progressive multiple sclerosis. 98 participants aged 40-70 with progressive MS will receive either NAC or a placebo for 15 months. Researchers will use brain scans to measure if NAC protects against brain tissue loss and check if it improves walking, hand function, or thinking skills.
