Brain scans probe if common supplement can tame untreatable OCD

NCT ID NCT06956157

Summary

This study is testing if adding the supplement N-acetylcysteine (NAC) helps people with severe OCD that hasn't improved with standard medications. Researchers will use brain scans on 90 participants to see if NAC works by changing levels of a brain chemical called glutamate. The main goal is to understand how NAC might help improve a person's ability to control unwanted thoughts and behaviors.
