Could a common antioxidant boost brain health in chronic fatigue syndrome?

NCT ID NCT04542161

First seen Feb 26, 2026 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 11 times

Summary

This study is testing whether N-Acetylcysteine (NAC), an antioxidant supplement, can help people with Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS). Researchers will give different doses of NAC or a placebo to 95 adults aged 21-60 to see how it affects brain glutathione (GSH) levels and markers of oxidative stress. The goal is to understand if NAC can protect the brain from damage and potentially lead to new treatments for this condition.
