Muscle clues: simple protein test may forecast hospital stay in inflammation patients

NCT ID NCT07476391

First seen Jun 27, 2026 ยท Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study explored whether levels of two muscle proteins, myostatin and irisin, can help predict how long patients with systemic inflammation (SIRS) will stay in the hospital. Researchers observed 54 adults admitted with acute illness and signs of SIRS, measuring these proteins and tracking their recovery. The goal was to see if these muscle signals could serve as early warning signs for longer hospital stays and muscle problems.
