New spectacle lenses aim to halt worsening myopia in children
NCT ID NCT07394556
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether special spectacle lenses can slow the progression of myopia (nearsightedness) in European children aged 6 to 12. A total of 180 kids will wear one of three lens designs for two years. The main goal is to measure changes in eye length and prescription strength over one year.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
myopia control spectacle lenses (Open Ring designs)
What this could lead to
If successful, these new lens designs could offer a better option to slow down worsening nearsightedness in children, reducing the need for stronger prescriptions.
What could go wrong
This is an early-stage trial with only 180 children, and results may not apply to all kids. The lenses might not slow myopia more than existing options, and long-term effects are unknown.
