First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether myofascial release—a type of gentle massage targeting tight connective tissue—can reduce pain and improve daily function in violinists with non-specific neck pain. Participants receive therapist-led sessions twice a week plus home exercises with massage balls over 8 weeks. The trial includes 24 professional violinists who have had neck pain for at least 3 months.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
myofascial release technique
What this could lead to
If effective, this approach could offer a drug-free way to manage neck pain and improve playing comfort for musicians.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study with only 24 participants, so results may not apply to all violinists. The technique may not provide lasting relief.
