Music lessons after cochlear implant may boost hearing in crowds
NCT ID NCT06734897
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether six months of music therapy, starting right after cochlear implant surgery, can improve a person's ability to understand speech in noisy places. Thirty adults who speak German will be split into groups: some start music therapy immediately, some start later, and some get no music therapy. Researchers will measure speech understanding in noise after six and twelve months to see if the training makes a difference.

What this could lead to
If it works, this could point toward a simple, drug-free way to help people with cochlear implants hear speech better in noisy environments.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study with only 30 participants. The benefit may be small or not apply to everyone, and results depend on consistent participation in therapy sessions.
