Can a simple ultrasound replace MRI for measuring muscle loss in sick kids?

NCT ID NCT05108441

First seen May 13, 2026 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tested whether bedside ultrasound can accurately measure muscle loss in critically ill children, compared to the gold-standard MRI. Researchers enrolled 35 children in the pediatric ICU who already needed an MRI. The goal was to see if ultrasound could be a reliable, easier way to monitor muscle health, which is important for recovery.
