New nasal spray mumps vaccines enter human testing
NCT ID NCT06967181
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This early-stage trial is testing two new mumps vaccines given as a nasal spray, called CVM150 and CVM26, in up to 60 healthy adults aged 18-29. The main goal is to check if they are safe and to see how well they trigger an immune response. Unlike traditional shots, these vaccines are sprayed into the nose, which could make vaccination easier and more acceptable.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
CVM150 and CVM26 intranasal mumps virus vaccines
What this could lead to
If successful, this could lead to a new, needle-free mumps vaccine that is easier to administer and may provide better protection.
What could go wrong
This is a very early Phase 1 trial with only 60 healthy adults, so safety and immune response are still unknown. The vaccines may not work as hoped or could cause side effects.
