Sound and sight training may restore vision after stroke

NCT ID NCT07659691

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tests whether a training program that pairs sounds with visual cues can help people who have lost part of their vision due to brain damage (cortical blindness). Participants will do 12 sessions where they see and hear stimuli in their blind area, plus virtual reality tests. The goal is to see if this approach improves vision and makes daily tasks easier.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

multisensory rehabilitation (sound and sight training)

What this could lead to

If it works, this approach could offer a way to improve vision and daily functioning for people with permanent blindness after a stroke or brain injury.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage study with only 30 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The training is intensive and may not work for all types of brain damage.
