Can a smartphone app help kids with cochlear implants hear music better?
NCT ID NCT07297524
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether a 12-week mobile app therapy called Multimodal Acoustic Therapy (MAT) can improve how well children and teens with cochlear implants perceive music and enjoy it. Twenty-five participants aged 10 to 19 will use the app at home and be followed for another 12 weeks. The goal is to see if this simple, non-invasive approach can boost their listening skills and music-related quality of life.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Mobile app for auditory rehabilitation
What this could lead to
If it works, this could point toward a simple, at-home therapy to help young cochlear implant users enjoy music more and improve their listening skills.
What could go wrong
This is a very small, early exploratory study with no comparison group. The therapy may not produce meaningful improvements, and results may not apply to all cochlear implant users.
