Soothing senses: new study tests Drug-Free labor pain relief
NCT ID NCT07248787
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether simple sensory methods—sacral massage, lavender aromatherapy, Turkish music, or watching an aquarium—can reduce labor pain and increase comfort and satisfaction in 200 women giving birth vaginally. Participants will be randomly assigned to one of these four interventions or standard care. Researchers will measure pain at different stages of labor, comfort, and birth satisfaction to find which method works best.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- sacral massage, lavender aromatherapy, Turkish makam music, aquarium visual stimulation
- What this could lead to
- If effective, these simple, drug-free methods could offer pregnant women more options to manage labor pain and improve their birth experience.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-stage trial (200 participants) comparing several interventions, so results may not apply broadly. Pain relief from these methods is likely modest and varies by individual.
