Could friendly bacteria in a gel shield women from HIV?
NCT ID NCT07181486
First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 09, 2026 · Updated 27 times
Summary
This early-stage study tests a new vaginal gel called MucoCept-CVN in 12 healthy women. The gel contains a modified version of a natural vaginal bacterium that continuously produces a potent anti-HIV drug. The goal is to see if it is safe and can be cleared with antibiotics, paving the way for a long-acting, woman-controlled HIV prevention method.
