Safer scan could replace radiation test for dementia warning signs

NCT ID NCT05756270

Summary

This study tested whether a special type of MRI scan (which doesn't use radiation) could work as well as a standard PET scan (which does) for spotting early brain changes in people with mild memory problems. Researchers compared the two scans in 150 people with mild cognitive impairment or subjective memory decline. They also checked if the MRI scan patterns could help predict who might develop dementia over three years of follow-up.
