New study tests if MRI-Guided radiation reduces side effects in prostate cancer
NCT ID NCT04384770
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This phase III trial compares two types of image-guided radiation for prostate cancer: CT-guided and MRI-guided stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT). About 179 men with localized prostate cancer will receive the same radiation dose, but one group's treatment is guided by CT scans and the other by MRI scans. The main goal is to see if MRI guidance causes fewer urinary and bowel side effects.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
radiation therapy (stereotactic body radiotherapy, SBRT)
What this could lead to
If MRI guidance proves better, it could become the new standard for prostate cancer radiation, reducing urinary and bowel side effects.
What could go wrong
This is a mid-stage trial with 179 participants, so results may not apply to all patients. MRI guidance may not significantly improve outcomes over CT.
