New scan seeks safer way to track deadly lung scarring

NCT ID NCT03207997

Summary

This study tested whether a special type of MRI scan could be used to measure lung scarring (fibrosis) in people with scleroderma. Researchers wanted to see if this method, which doesn't use radiation, could be a better and more reproducible way to track the disease compared to current CT scans. The study involved 24 scleroderma patients and used computer software to analyze how the lungs move during breathing to identify stiff, scarred areas.
