Tailored cocktail aims to wipe out CLL in young High-Risk patients
NCT ID NCT05478512
First seen Jun 27, 2026 ยท Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This phase 2 trial tests a personalized approach for young adults (18-65) with high-risk chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) who haven't been treated before. Patients first get a combination of venetoclax and obinutuzumab, then their treatment is adjusted based on whether cancer cells remain. If no cancer is detected, they take venetoclax alone for a short time; if cancer remains, they add zanubrutinib. The goal is to achieve undetectable minimal residual disease, meaning no cancer cells can be found, and tailor therapy to each patient's needs.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only โ not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- venetoclax, obinutuzumab, and zanubrutinib
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could offer a personalized treatment approach that reduces or eliminates cancer cells in young high-risk CLL patients, potentially delaying or avoiding long-term therapy.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small phase 2 trial with only 78 participants, so results may not apply to all patients. The treatment involves multiple drugs with side effects, and some patients may still need ongoing therapy.
