New study aims to replace invasive liver biopsy with MRI for donors

NCT ID NCT07015723

First seen Jan 07, 2026 · Last updated Jun 13, 2026 · Updated 28 times

Summary

This study looks at whether an MRCP scan can accurately measure liver fat instead of a biopsy in people who want to donate part of their liver. A biopsy is invasive and carries risks, while an MRCP is safer and faster. Researchers will compare results from both methods in 90 donors to see if the scan is reliable enough to replace the biopsy.
