MRI-Guided radiation may shrink inoperable colon tumors
NCT ID NCT06244537
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This early-phase trial is testing whether a precise MRI-guided radiation technique (MR-Linac) can help shrink advanced colon cancers that cannot be surgically removed. Twenty participants will receive short-course radiation followed by chemotherapy, then surgery if possible. The goal is to see if this approach is safe and can make surgery an option.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
MR-Linac radiotherapy and chemotherapy (mFOLFOX6 or XELOX)
What this could lead to
If successful, this approach could make surgery possible for some patients with colon cancer that was previously considered inoperable.
What could go wrong
This is a very early, small phase I trial with only 20 participants. The combination of radiation and chemotherapy may cause significant side effects, and it is unknown if it will improve long-term outcomes.
