Major mpox drug trial halted after failing to show benefit

Summary
This large study tested whether the antiviral drug tecovirimat could safely and effectively treat mpox. Over 700 participants with mpox were randomly assigned to receive either the drug or a placebo for 14 days. The trial was stopped early after an independent review board found it was unlikely to show that the drug helped skin lesions heal faster or reduced pain more than the placebo.
