Mouthwash vs. COVID: does rinsing reduce virus spread?
NCT ID NCT04931004
First seen Jan 30, 2026 · Last updated Apr 28, 2026 · Updated 13 times
Summary
This early-stage study tested whether common mouthwashes can reduce the amount of SARS-CoV-2 virus that people breathe out. 34 adults with confirmed COVID-19 provided breath samples using a face mask before and after rinsing with mouthwash or water. Researchers measured viral levels to see if mouthwash could help lower the virus in exhaled air.
