Fat stem cells may unlock tight mouths in scleroderma patients

NCT ID NCT07326033

First seen Jan 10, 2026 · Last updated May 21, 2026 · Updated 17 times

Summary

This study tests whether injections of donated fat-derived stem cells around the mouth can reduce fibrosis (scar-like tightness) and improve daily function in 50 adults with systemic scleroderma. Participants receive either the cell injections or a placebo, and changes in mouth handicap are measured after 12 weeks. The goal is to find a new, safe way to ease a common complication that makes eating, speaking, and dental care difficult.
