New drug may boost stem cell harvest for sickle cell patients

Summary
This early-stage study tests whether the drug motixafortide is safe for people with sickle cell disease and whether it can increase the number of stem cells in the blood for collection. The stem cells could be used for future transplants or gene therapy. About 15 adults with severe sickle cell disease will take part.
