Morning workout may burn more fat and stabilize blood sugar in type 1 diabetes

NCT ID NCT06115616

First seen Jun 29, 2026 · Last updated Jun 30, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study investigates whether exercising in the morning versus the afternoon changes how the body handles blood sugar and burns fat in people with type 1 diabetes. Twelve adults with type 1 diabetes will do one hour of moderate exercise at 9 AM and another session at 4 PM on separate days. Researchers will measure how much extra sugar is needed to prevent low blood sugar and track fat burning rates to see if morning exercise offers an advantage.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to

If exercise timing matters, this could help people with type 1 diabetes plan workouts to better manage blood sugar and reduce the need for extra carbs.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage study with only 12 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The findings are about understanding metabolism, not a new treatment.
