Monthly shot tested to ease treatment burden for dialysis patients
NCT ID NCT00560404
Summary
This study tested whether a new monthly injection (Mircera) could work as well as a standard weekly injection (epoetin alfa) to maintain healthy red blood cell levels in people with anemia from kidney failure on dialysis. Over 200 patients who were already receiving the weekly treatment were randomly assigned to either switch to the monthly shot or continue their usual weekly regimen. The main goal was to see if the monthly injection could keep patients' blood levels stable and safe over several months.
