Asthma drug may shield hearts from chemo damage

NCT ID NCT05959889

Summary

This study tested whether montelukast, a common asthma medication, could help protect the heart from damage caused by the chemotherapy drug doxorubicin in breast cancer patients. Fifty patients were split into two groups: one received montelukast and the other received a placebo while undergoing chemotherapy. Researchers measured specific blood markers related to heart stress and inflammation to see if the drug made a difference.
