New index may predict sepsis severity in the ER

NCT ID NCT07479563

First seen Mar 22, 2026 · Last updated May 13, 2026 · Updated 5 times

Summary

This study looks at whether a simple calculation using heart rate and blood pressure (called the Modified Shock Index) can help predict how serious sepsis is for patients arriving at the emergency department. Researchers will follow 70 adults with sepsis to see if this score relates to needing ICU care, breathing machines, or longer hospital stays. The goal is to find a quick, non-invasive way to identify high-risk patients early.
