New skin cell transplant combo aims to restore color in white patches
NCT ID NCT07662915
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests two surgical techniques to treat stable white patches on the skin that are not caused by vitiligo. Both methods involve transplanting the patient's own skin cells, followed by laser therapy to boost color return. Twenty-two adults will each receive both treatments on different patches to see which works better and is safer.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Melanocyte keratinocyte transplantation procedure (MKTP) and 308-nm excimer laser
What this could lead to
If successful, this could point toward a better surgical treatment for stable white patches not caused by vitiligo, improving skin color matching and repigmentation.
What could go wrong
This is a very small early study with only 22 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The procedures involve surgery and laser, which carry risks like infection or scarring.
