Scientists probe link between cellular power failure and brittle bones

NCT ID NCT05483738

Summary

This study aims to understand how problems with the mitochondria—the energy-producing parts of cells—affect bone health in people with rare mitochondrial diseases. Researchers will compare 30 people who have specific genetic mutations affecting mitochondria to 30 healthy individuals. They will examine bone cell growth, activity, and metabolism in the lab, and analyze tiny bone samples to see if mitochondrial dysfunction leads to weaker bones.
