Mirror or VR: which boosts stroke arm function best?

NCT ID NCT07018336

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study compares two modern therapies—mirror therapy and virtual reality (VR)—to see which better improves arm function in people with hemiplegia after a stroke. Forty-two participants aged 18-75, who had a stroke 6-12 months ago, will be randomly assigned to one session of either therapy. Researchers will measure motor skills, spasticity, daily activity performance, and reaction time right after treatment.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to

If this trial shows one therapy is more effective, it could guide rehabilitation choices to improve arm movement and daily function after stroke.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage study with only 42 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The therapies are short-term and may not lead to lasting improvements.
