Old antibiotic tested as new weapon against stubborn hypertension

NCT ID NCT02133872

Summary

This study tested whether minocycline, a common antibiotic, could help lower blood pressure in people whose high blood pressure was not controlled by three or more standard medications. Researchers gave 34 participants increasing doses of minocycline over six months to see if it could reduce their blood pressure. The goal was to see if calming brain inflammation with this safe, existing drug could offer a new treatment option for resistant hypertension.
