New keyhole surgery could ease back pain and speed recovery
NCT ID NCT07045714
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests a minimally invasive surgery called ULBLD for people with lumbar spinal stenosis—a condition that narrows the spine and causes pain or numbness. The surgery uses a small incision and a camera to relieve pressure on nerves. Researchers will track 78 patients in Mexico for 12 months to see if it improves disability, pain, and nerve function compared to their pre-surgery state.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
unilateral laminotomy with bilateral lumbar decompression (ULBLD) using endoscopic uniportal technique
What this could lead to
If successful, this could offer a less painful, faster-recovery surgical option for people with lumbar spinal stenosis.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage case series without a comparison group, so results may not apply to everyone. Surgery always carries risks like infection or nerve damage.
