Can your brain trick pain away? new study combines mindfulness and placebo

NCT ID NCT06720909

First seen Feb 22, 2026 · Last updated May 17, 2026 · Updated 13 times

Summary

This study looks at whether combining mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) with open-label placebo pills (pills with no active drug that you know are placebos) can help people with chronic pain. About 45 adults with pain on most days for the past 3 months will be randomly assigned to MBSR alone, placebo alone, or both together. The main goal is to see if this combination is practical and acceptable, not yet to prove it works.
