Can thinking about death help you put down your phone?
NCT ID NCT07379541
Summary
This study tested whether a specific type of meditation focused on awareness of mortality could help young adults reduce problematic smartphone use. Researchers compared this 'mindfulness-of-death' meditation to traditional mindfulness meditation in 259 participants aged 18-29 who used their phones heavily. The goal was to see if the approach could reduce phone addiction by increasing self-esteem, finding meaning in life, and lowering stress.
