First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether a short mindfulness program can lower anxiety and improve bonding for mothers whose babies are in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). 66 mothers will be randomly assigned to either the mindfulness program or standard care. The program includes four group sessions teaching breathing, body scan, and present-moment awareness.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) program
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could offer a simple, drug-free way to help mothers cope with stress and feel closer to their babies during a difficult NICU stay.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-stage trial with only 66 participants. The mindfulness program is short (4 sessions), so benefits may be limited or not last long.
