Mindfulness meditation boosts hope and quality of life in head and neck cancer patients

NCT ID NCT04800419

First seen Jun 26, 2026 ยท Last updated Jun 26, 2026

Summary

This study tested whether a mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) program could improve quality of life and positive feelings like hope and optimism in people newly diagnosed with head and neck cancer. 110 participants were split into two groups: one received MBSR training, the other standard care. Researchers measured changes in quality of life, hope, and posttraumatic growth right after the program and again 12 weeks later.

What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a simple, drug-free way to help head and neck cancer patients feel better emotionally and improve their quality of life.
What could go wrong
This is a small, completed trial with 110 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The benefits are about easing symptoms, not treating the cancer itself.
