Race against time: can a heart drug save brains after a devastating bleed?

NCT ID NCT04362527

Summary

This study tested if a drug called milrinone could help patients recover better from a dangerous complication of a severe brain bleed. The complication, called vasospasm, causes brain arteries to squeeze shut, cutting off blood flow and often leading to death or severe disability. In this large Phase 3 trial, 370 patients who developed this spasm were randomly assigned to receive either milrinone or a placebo (saltwater) infusion to see if the drug improved their neurological recovery three months later.
