Scientists investigate if mouth germs can predict radiotherapy success

NCT ID NCT07253402

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study looks at how the natural bacteria in your mouth might influence the effectiveness of radiation therapy for head and neck cancer. Researchers will collect saliva samples from 100 patients before, during, and after treatment to analyze the bacteria and viruses present. The goal is to find patterns that could help predict whether the cancer will be controlled and whether painful mouth sores will develop as a side effect. This is an observational study, meaning it does not test a new treatment but aims to gather knowledge for future therapies.
