New hope for older leukemia patients: gentler transplant tested

NCT ID NCT03232268

Summary

This study tested the safety of a new, gentler transplant method for older adults or those who cannot have a standard bone marrow transplant for leukemia or related blood cancers. The approach uses a small, mismatched donor transplant but skips the strong drugs that suppress the patient's immune system, hoping to avoid serious side effects. Researchers monitored 25 patients to see if this method could help control the cancer without causing dangerous immune reactions.
