First seen Jan 11, 2026 · Last updated May 14, 2026 · Updated 19 times
Summary
This study checked if critically ill newborns in the NICU are exposed to microplastics from the plastic tubing used for intravenous (IV) nutrition. Researchers compared babies who got IV nutrition for a long time, a short time, or not at all, and measured microplastics in their blood. The goal is to understand this exposure and help make medical equipment safer for vulnerable infants.
