New eye test could spot retinal disease before symptoms appear

NCT ID NCT07170683

First seen Oct 01, 2025 · Last updated May 08, 2026 · Updated 24 times

Summary

This study tests a device called microperimetry to measure how sensitive the central retina is to light in people with dry age-related macular degeneration or diabetic retinopathy. Researchers will compare these measurements with standard eye scans to see if the test can detect changes earlier than usual. About 200 participants will be followed for 12 months, along with a healthy control group. No treatments are given; the goal is to improve future detection and understanding of these eye conditions.
