Gum regrowth showdown: microneedling with PRF vs hyaluronic acid

NCT ID NCT07280507

First seen Dec 18, 2025 · Last updated Jun 19, 2026 · Updated 25 times

Summary

This small early trial tests whether microneedling combined with a patient's own platelet-rich fibrin (i-PRF) can rebuild lost gum tissue between teeth better than hyaluronic acid gel injections. Seven adults with mild gum recession are being studied. The goal is to find a less invasive alternative to surgery for improving gum appearance.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Injectable Platelet Rich Fibrin (i-PRF) and Hyaluronic Acid gel

What this could lead to

If it works, this could offer a minimally invasive, biologically active alternative to surgery for restoring gum tissue between teeth.

What could go wrong

This is a very early, tiny trial (only 7 people) testing a cosmetic dental procedure. Results may not apply to everyone, and the approach may not prove better than existing options.
