No-Needle chemo patch takes aim at skin cancer
NCT ID NCT06608238
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tested a microneedle patch that delivers the chemotherapy drug doxorubicin directly into nodular basal cell carcinoma, a common skin cancer. 90 adults with small, untreated tumors received either a low-dose, high-dose, or no-drug patch. The goal was to see if the patch could clear the cancer both visually and under a microscope, with the tumor removed at the end for confirmation.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
doxorubicin delivered via microneedle patch
What this could lead to
If successful, this could offer a needle-free, targeted treatment for common skin cancers, potentially reducing the need for surgery.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-phase study (90 people) and results may not apply to larger or more aggressive tumors. The treatment is not a cure and requires follow-up excision.
