First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 14, 2026 · Updated 26 times

Summary

This study tests whether transplanting healthy gut bacteria (microbiota transplant therapy) can help people with moderate to severe alopecia areata, an autoimmune disease that causes patchy or total hair loss. Researchers will give 40 adults a treatment to change their gut bacteria and then check for hair regrowth and changes in the immune system. The goal is to see if this approach can control the disease and promote regrowth without needing lifelong medication.
