Gut check: could your bacteria predict heart attack survival?

NCT ID NCT03439592

First seen Apr 25, 2026 · Last updated May 09, 2026 · Updated 3 times

Summary

This study looked at 200 people who had a severe heart attack (STEMI) to see if the bacteria in their gut (microbiota) is different in those with high blood sugar versus normal blood sugar. Researchers collected stool samples before treatment, at 6 months, and at 12 months to track changes and see if those changes relate to survival. The goal was to understand if gut bacteria could help predict outcomes after a heart attack.
