Scientists track gut health in ICU to predict patient recovery
NCT ID NCT04552834
Summary
This study aims to understand how the community of bacteria in the gut changes when a person is critically ill in the hospital. Researchers will collect stool samples from 500 adult patients in the intensive care unit and track their health for a year after discharge. The goal is to see if changes in gut bacteria are linked to how long patients stay in the hospital, their risk of death, and their long-term physical and mental recovery.
